ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN VIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Mountain View School District is a K-8 district located in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley and each day welcomes approximately 7,400 students through the doors of its 10 elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school and one alternative school. The District also serves the educational needs of 600 preschool students and families through the Head Start/State Preschool and Children’s Center programs. All of the District's 10 elementary schools have Full Day Kindergarten.

Inspiring each student to succeed every day and ensuring that each student attains or exceeds academic proficiency is the mission of the Mountain View School District.

MVSD prepares today's students and tomorrow's leaders for success by providing core academics with 21st century skills. Through innovative support systems, students are encouraged to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, good communicators and collaborators,technology literate, innovative, creative, and globally competent.

Working in collaboration, our employees, parents and community members actively participate in the educational development of our students, providing them with a solid foundation of skills they may take forward into our ever changing world.

  • Portable devices such as iPods and iPads that bring the rich multimedia web content to teachers and students, WIFI connectivity in all schools to support easy access to the internet to reinforce reading, language arts and math.

HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS AND INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS

  • 100% of our teachers and instructional assistants are Highly Qualified as defined by No Child Left Behind
  • MVSD has one of the highest percentages of Highly Qualified teachers in all of Los Angeles County

PARENT EDUCATION AND INVOLVEMENT

Improving school, family, and community partnerships continues to be a priority for the Mountain View School District.   The District incorporates the“Achievement-Focused Family Engagement” program, a research based framework and operational model for connecting programs of school, family and community partnership directly to each school’s academic goals. Each of our schools has a school site Partnership Action Team who plans,implements, evaluates and continually improves family and community involvement activities creating a welcoming school climate and helping all students succeed.   MVSD is proud of its award winning and nationally recognized Parent Education and Involvement Program and offers several workshops, conferences, meetings and educational opportunities for parents to participate in throughout the school year.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

Mountain View School District serves a predominantly Hispanic population in the communities of El Monte, with a population of100,000, and South El Monte, with a population of 25,000.   El Monte is a historic community that provides a quiet place to live within easy commuting distance of virtually every type of recreation and entertainment. The mountains, beaches, desert and metropolitan areas are all accessible by one of three interstate freeways, a general aviation airport or a rapid transit system.
