Students and Families Enjoy MVSD's Free Summer Library Program "Feed Your Mind...Read"
MVSD’s free summer library program continued to promote literacy by providing students and parents the opportunity to visit three of the District’s school libraries for recreational reading during the summer months when school is out.
Library technicians provided story telling, fun and educational games, movies, cooking lessons, arts and crafts. As part of the “Feed Your Mind...Read” summer program, visitors to the library were also able to check out books for home reading. The program is partially funded through the Food Services Department and offered lessons on good nutrition and staying active during the summer.
“Its fun coming to the library,” said Parkview sixth grader Ashley. “My friend and I like to read books and play games. I’m glad it’s open during the summer so we have somewhere fun to go.”
This is the 15th year MVSD’s libraries have been open during the summer, providing students and other youngsters in the community, as well as parents, a chance to escape the heat and increase their reading and comprehension skills.
