MOUNTAIN VIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT
Inspiring Each Student to Succeed Every Day

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON PHYSICAL SCHOOL CLOSURES - APRIL 2, 2020

Dear Mt. View Families,

At the recommendation of the State Department of Education and Los Angeles County Office of Education, Mountain View School District schools, along with schools throughout California, will remain physically closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year due to the impacts of the coronavirus. This very difficult decision was made out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of our students, staff and families at the forefront as we continue to deal with the coronavirus pandemic and the need for continued social distancing. It is unsafe for our campuses to be open. State health officials have made it clear that the safest place to be is home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While we are deeply saddened by this, and know it is very difficult for our students and families, we know it is the right thing to do to ensure the health and safety of our students and slow the transmission of this pandemic. Although the campuses will remain physically closed, the school year is not over. We will continue our efforts to deliver our instruction through distance learning and ask for your patience and understanding as we are transitioning into a new way of teaching and learning to meet the health and safety impacts of COVID-19. Distance learning is a new experience for all of us and we are receiving assistance and guidance from the state and county offices of education with our distance learning efforts. Our District leadership is working with them to support this new learning environment and ensure continuity of instruction for our students. We will keep you updated regarding our plans through our District website, phone calls and communications from your school site.

We know that being away from school and friends is very hard for our students and we are extremely concerned about their social and emotional well-being and are working on ways to stay connected even at a distance. It is important for your child to stay connected with his/her teachers and classmates, and we need to keep our lines of communication and collaboration open. Please reach out to your school site if you need assistance and refer to our website for mental health resources.

Our Nutritional Services Department will continue to provide Grab & Go meals Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Twin Lakes, Payne and Kranz schools for children 18 and under. Additional Grab & Go sites throughout El Monte and South El Monte can be found on our District website.

We are grateful to our students, families and staff for the tremendous support and efforts made during these truly unique and challenging times. We are proud of our Mt. View community for coming together and finding creative solutions in these unprecedented times, and we are confident that we

are stronger together and will rise to meet this challenge, united as Team Mt. View. We hope you stay safe and well.
