Twin Lakes’ SRLA Team Begins Training
Posted on 10/05/2021

A group of determined and courageous seventh and eighth graders at Twin Lakes School are training for the Los Angeles Marathon as part of the school’s Students Run LA (SRLA) team.  Led by 7th grade teacher, David Dorf, the team is currently training on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays after school.  In October, Saturday trainings at Legg Lake will be added where the team will continue their long runs as they gear up for the 26.2 mile LA Marathon scheduled for March 20, 2022.

Dorf previously coached Madrid Middle School’s SRLA team and is excited to bring the program to Twin Lakes School.

“SRLA is a great program that continues to provide opportunities for all students throughout the Los Angeles area,” said Dorf.  “We have 22 students on our SRLA team now and they will learn that if you can run a marathon, you can do anything in life.”

The mission of Students Run LA is to challenge students to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved health by providing them with a truly life-changing experience: The training for and completion of the Los Angeles Marathon.  SRLA organizes, transports, and pays for participants to enter six community races of progressively longer distances, building from a 5K to a 30K race.  Through these races, students learn to pace themselves, to set and achieve small goals, and to experience success as they train. Training shirts, running shoes, entry fees and transportation to the races, a Marathon uniform, Marathon Day support, and more are provided to the students and coaches by the SRLA program.

Twin Lakes’ runners join over 3,200 students from 185 schools who will learn to set goals and feel a great sense of accomplishment when they achieve their ultimate goal of completing the 26.2 miles on March 20.
