Family members and friends gathered at Mountain View School District’s schools to celebrate students promoting from 8th grade from Monte Vista, Twin Lakes and Parkview schools, as well as 6th graders promoting from Baker, Maxson, Miramonte and Payne schools, and 3rd graders promoting from La Primaria School. District administrators, Board of Education members, school administrators and staff, along with South El Monte City Council members and El Monte/South El Monte Chamber of Commerce representatives joined in the celebrations.
The promoting students were honored for their achievements, perseverance, dedication and hard work and were encouraged to set goals, work hard, and put their best effort forward as they advance to their next grade level. Student speeches included heartfelt sentiments highlighting their time at the schools, the knowledge they gained, activities they were involved in, as well as the memories they shared with their classmates. The student speakers also expressed their appreciation to their teachers, staff members and administrators for the tremendous instruction and knowledge they gained, as well as the unending support they received which will help them as they move on to the next grade level.
Addressing the promoting classes, school principals expressed their gratitude to the students for their dedicated efforts, and to the staff and families for their support and encouragement which helped the scholars reach this milestone in their educational journey.
Michelle Torres, Principal of Monte Vista School commended the 8th graders for completing their elementary and middle school years.
“Our entire Monte Vista team is proud of the work and accomplishments of all of our promoting 8th graders and we look forward to your continued success and future achievements.”
MVSD is grateful to South El Monte Mayor, Gloria Olmos, a Monte Vista School alum, and Council Members, Richard Angel and Manuel Acosta and El Monte/South El Monte Chamber of Commerce Director, Chris Knight for participating in the ceremonies Monte Vista and Miramonte schools and generously donating scholarship awards for students.
“On behalf of the City of South El Monte, we are so proud of you,” said Mayor Olmos, addressing the promoting Monte Vista Eagles. “Congratulations on all that you’ve achieved so far in your education. Continue to work hard, set goals and know that your South El Monte City Council is here for you and we wish you all the best.”
The 8th grade Class of 2024 Valedictorians, Liliana Pineda Mariquez and Nhi Lu from Monte Vista School, Teresa Nguyen from Twin Lakes School and Janette Arce, Jenny Chau, Evan Dinh, Caroline Galaviz Corona, Thanh Thao Nguyen, Buoncent Priestley, Jenna Tran and Thao Tran from Parkview School were commended for their outstanding academic success and received special recognition for their efforts.
“Unlock the Magic Within” was the theme of Baker School’s 6th grade promotion. Along with promotion certificates, medals were given out for achievement in Language Arts and Math, special awards for Principal’s Honor Roll, gold stoles for reading 1 million words in Accelerated Reader (AR) and certificates for completing the Big Buddy/Little Buddy Peer Mentor Program. A special award was presented to Andy Lam who broke the Baker School record for AR points, earning a remarkable 1,205 AR points this school year. Proud family members and friends joined Baker’s sixth grade teachers and staff to celebrate the achievements of the students and encourage them to unlock the magic within as they continue on to 7th grade.
Maxson’ School’s sixth graders were acknowledged for their successful completion of their elementary school years and were encouraged to strive for greatness as they move on to seventh grade. Student speeches and awards highlighted the ceremony. The Maxson staff is extremely proud of the promoting students and know they will continue to reach for great heights in middle school.
Payne School commemorated the achievements of the promoting sixth grade Panthers and applauded them for their many achievements made during their elementary school years and for finishing their sixth-grade year strong and with Panther Pride. As they move on to seventh grade, the students were encouraged look ahead and dream of all the possibilities their future holds.
Miramonte’s sixth grade ceremony included student speeches and awards for academic achievement, academic excellence and perfect attendance. Administrators and teachers praised the students for the hard work and dedication they displayed in completing their elementary education.
The promoting 3rd graders from La Primaria School were honored for their accomplishments completing their primary years at a special “Fun in the Sun” themed ceremony. The Lion Cubs were praised by their teachers and principal for their academics, effort and character. MVSD Board of Education Member, Cindy Wu congratulated the students for their success and thanked the parents and guardians for the outstanding support they provide for their children.
MVSD is very proud of all the promoting students and appreciates the opportunity to nurture their academic, social and emotional growth during their elementary and middle school years.
