Dear MVSD families,

I want to offer my sincere gratitude to all of our students, families, and staff for the great strength and resilience you’ve shown during this past week as we continue in this extraordinary time of uncertainty.  Our highest priority remains the health and safety of our students, employees and their families as we navigate our District’s response to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to the new “Safer at Home” mandates, and with the support of the Governor’s Office, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and Los Angeles County Office of Education, we have joined our neighboring school districts and extended our temporary school closure period through Monday, May 4, 2020.  We are hopeful that students will be able to return to school on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, or sooner if the situation improves and it is safe for schools to reopen.  This extended period includes our regularly scheduled Spring Break, April 10-April 17, 2020.

We understand the tremendous disruption that the school closure is creating and we are sorry for the impact it is having as we all face new stressors and challenges during this time.  I am confident that through our unified collaboration, as our Mt. View Family, we will navigate these challenges together.

Our teachers, administrators, and staff have worked tirelessly to develop remote learning opportunities, provide meals, and clean and maintain schools.  Remote learning resources by grade level can be found on our district website www.mtviewschools.com and on our Mobile App under “Home eLearning.” Additionally, for families without access to remote learning, at-home learning packets were available for pick up at the District Office.  With the extension of the school closure, we will transition to a more developed distance learning model, either online or with printed materials. We will be following up with more information in the near future, either from the District Office or from your child’s school.

We have also created an MVSD Student Support Services Hotline for parents to call in for consultative support services. Parents/Caregivers can leave a message and their calls will be returned within 24-hours between Monday and Friday, excluding legal holidays and regularly scheduled district breaks. The Hotline phone number is (626) 652-4090

As a District, we are working hard to provide you with the level of support you need.  We will continue to provide updates regarding at-home learning, meal service and other supports available. This is new to all of us and we are doing the best we can as we move our teaching methods from classroom-based to at-home learning and anticipate new challenges in the days and weeks ahead.

On behalf of our Board of Education, we urge you to please take care of yourself and your family’s physical and mental health during this uncertainty and adhere to the new “Safer at Home” public health order in place through April 19, 2020, urging people to:

  • stay home or at their place of residence
  • only leave home for essential items
  • avoid gatherings of over 10 people

Again, I want to thank you for your patience, support, and grace during this challenging and uncertain time.   We miss our students and Mt. View families greatly, and I hope you all stay healthy and well.

Sincerely,

Lillian Maldonado French

Superintendent

Welcome to MVSD

The Mountain View School District is located in the cities of El Monte and South El Monte, California.   Our mission is to inspire each student to succeed every day and ensure that each student attains or exceeds academic proficiency.  MVSD’s 12 schools, alternative education center and Children’s Center/Head Start program are strongly committed to high expectations and improved student achievement at all grade levels.

MVSD & THINK Together

Think Together   MVSD Logo

Mountain View School District is partnering with Think Together to jointly submit an application for federal funding, through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Program, to renew its grant to provide K-8 after-school services at twelve schools within the district. If funded, the award would begin July 1, 2019, and end on June 30, 2024.

MVSD Measure SS & School Facilities Bond Updates

Measure SS, Mountain View School District’s $57.0 million general obligation (G.O.) bond program continues to address the needs of the District's student population through modernization and renovation projects at schools throughout the District.

Currently, a variety of summer Measure SS Bond projects are underway at Maxson, Miramonte, Cogswell and Payne Schools.  The summer work includes underground utilities replacement at Maxson and Miramonte Schools, exterior painting at Payne and Cogswell Schools, finish work at the Mt. View Family Center and the installation of new fire alarms at Baker, Cogswell, Miramonte and Payne Schools.  The campuses at Maxson, Miramonte, Cogswell, Payne and the Family Center will remain closed through the summer due to the construction taking place.

For the past two years Measure SS Bond money has funded projects including an underground utilities project at Payne School in the summer 2017 where extensive underground infrastructure improvements were made including the installation of new water, electrical and gas lines and a new catch basin in the field for water runoff.  In the summer of 2018, Measure SS funded underground utilities replacement at Baker School, roofing repair/replacement at both Miramonte and Voorhis Schools, construction at the Mountain View Family Center and Phase II of the HVAC Replacement Project. Additionally, new fencing was installed at several schools.

MVSD appreciates the support of the community in passing Measure SS which is providing funding to enhance the school campuses and educational environment for students.
