Schools Providing Fun Student Engagement

Schools Providing Fun Student Engagement

Schools in the Mountain View School District are working hard to not only provide rigorous instruction through Distance Learning, but are finding creative ways to keep students engaged in programs and fun activities like Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), Flag Ceremonies, Spirit Days, Attendance Contests, College Days and more, even from a Distance.

Students are excited to participate in zoom assemblies where they get to see school staff members and friends.  During Cogswell School’s Flag Ceremony Assembly, principal, Shane Muetzel announced the school is having a “Zoomer of the Week” Contest and will award one student from each classroom weekly for being an exceptional zoomer.  The school also hosts College Wednesdays when staff and students wear their college apparel during their virtual instruction, showing that the Cogswell Cubs are college-bound.

Miramonte School’s Virtual Spirit Week got students and staff excited for the school day with Hat Day, Sunglasses Day and Sports Day.

At Payne School they are holding a September PBIS Attendance Contest focusing on one of the school’s positive behavior expectations - Accepting Responsibility.  For the contest, all students who are present 90% during the month of September will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a School Spirit Pack.

“Although our school setting might look a little different this year our goals are still the same, to produce caring, empathetic Payne Panthers who thrive in this world,” said Nellie Huerta, Payne School’s Community Liaison.  “While distance learning our students can show how they are accepting responsibility by attending class and being prepared and present,” she added.

MVSD is proud of the hard work of its students, families and staff as they continue to navigate distance learning.

“The resiliency and perseverance of our students, families and staff has been amazing,” said Lillian Maldonado French, Superintendent.  “They are making the best of the very challenging times we are in and are working very hard in the virtual learning environment.”
