MVSD schools were packed with proud family members and friends celebrating students promoting from 8th grade from Monte Vista, Twin Lakes and Parkview schools, the Independent Study Virtual Academy, as well as 6th graders promoting from Baker, Maxson, Miramonte and Payne schools, and 3rd graders promoting from La Primaria School.   District administrators, Board of Education members, school administrators and staff, and members of the South El Monte City Council joined in the celebrations.

     The students in the class of 2023 were honored for their achievements, perseverance, dedication and hard work and were encouraged to continue to work hard, embrace challenges, and put their best effort forward as they move on to their next grade level. Heart-felt speeches by students highlighted their time at the schools, the knowledge they gained, activities they were involved in, as well as the memories they shared with their classmates.  The student speakers also expressed their gratitude to their teachers, staff members and families for their unending support.    

     Addressing the promoting classes, school principals expressed their appreciation to the students for their dedicated efforts, and to the staff and families for their support and encouragement which helped the scholars reach this point in their educational journey. 

      Dr. Angelica De La Rosa, Principal of Parkview School commended the 8th graders for making it through some very challenging times.

     ‘You made it through so much these past few years - a global pandemic, a two-year shut down, the combining of elementary and middle school, and I am confident you are more than prepared for high school,” said De La Rosa. “Congratulations Parkview Eagles, you did it!”

    “We are proud of the work and accomplishments that our students have achieved during their years at Twin Lakes,” said Dr. Shane Muetzel, principal.  “We know their futures are bright and we look forward to their continued success and future achievements.”

      MVSD is grateful to South El Monte Mayor, Gloria Olmos, a Monte Vista School alum, Mayor Pro Tem, Richard Angel and El Monte/South El Monte Chamber of Commerce Director, Ken Rausch for participating in Monte Vista’s and Miramonte’s ceremonies and generously donating scholarship awards for students.

      “On behalf of the City of South El Monte, we are so proud of you,” said Mayor Olmos, addressing the promoting Monte Vista Eagles. “Continue to work hard and make it happen for your future.  You are in control of your destiny and only you can make it happen for you, so stay the course and we wish you all the best.”

      The promoting 6th grade Payne Panthers were commended for a successful school year and for their many achievements made during their elementary school years.  Interim Principal, Dr. Aileen La Corte encouraged the students take hold of opportunities in middle school and to be courageous, strong and tenacious and to never give up on their dreams.  

     Miramonte’s sixth grade ceremony included special awards, student speeches and two lucky students won bicycles which were generously donated by ISD (Innovative Sports Distribution) in South El Monte.

    The promoting 3rd graders from La Primaria School were honored for their accomplishments and were praised by their teachers, Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Morier, for their academics as well as for being exceptional human beings who display kindness, compassion and care on a daily basis.  MVSD Board of Education Member, Cindy Wu congratulated the students for their success and thanked the parents and guardians for the outstanding support they provide for their children.  Student speeches and a special performance completed the heartwarming ceremony.

     MVSD is very proud of all the promoting students and appreciates the opportunity to nurture their academic, social and emotional growth during their elementary and middle school years. 

      “Congratulations to our promoting students,” said Dr. Raymond Andry, Superintendent.  “We are privileged to provide our students with a strong educational foundation which has prepared them well for their future school years.  As our 8th graders move on to high school, I encourage them to continue to work hard and reach for their dreams.  Their potential is limitless and the entire Mountain View family wishes them all the best.”
