Payne School Attends UCLA College Event
Students, families and staff from Payne Elementary School spent Saturday, November 11 at the Rose Bowl, participating in the UCLA Athletic Department’s I’m Going to College event. Aligned with the District’s college-bound culture, the family field trip was a great way for students and families to learn about UCLA and their college options.
The event included giveaways, games, crafts and admission to the UCLA football game versus Arizona State University. Each student received an “I’m Going to College” t-shirt and pom-pom. According to Payne’s Principal, Dr. Aileen La Corte, it was a fun day for the 75 Payne Panthers who attended, and the event gave them spirit and enthusiasm for going to college.
“The University of California, Los Angeles I'm Going to College event gave the Payne students and their families Bruin college spirit,” said Dr. La Corte. “At the football game, students and families sat in the very front section, next to the UCLA band. They interacted with the UCLA mascots, cheer and song leaders, and the UCLA Women's volleyball team members, too.”
MVSD offers a variety of college field trips throughout the school year and during the summer months for students and families. Inspiring students to be future collegiate scholars is part of the District’s college-bound culture which is promoted among all students and families through college visitations, the El Monte Promise Foundation’s Scholars Savings Program, the AVID program, College and Career Day Events and more.
